"Speed, Strength, Efficiency"
The Brigade Anti-Terrorism or BAT, whose members are also nicknamed "Black Tigers", is the elite unit of the San Andreas National Police specializing in paramilitary operations during particularly serious events.
The BAT based in Las Venturas , in the enclosure of the general direction of the intervention units at the barracks, its training and instruction center being located in Verdant Meadows Airfield.
Access to the unit imposes very strict rules, particularly with regard to physical, medical, psychological and psychotechnical aptitude tests; it recruits from the best elements of the national police. Its motto is: “Speed, strength, efficiency”
According to NATO 's definition , the BAT is a special force. Its role is in particular to act in crisis & extremely dire situations, such as:
Hostage-taking on various platforms (ships, planes, urban areas, etc.)
The retrenchment of madmen or the arrest of high-risk criminals.
It also contributes to the fight against terrorism attacks, evacuating civilians from attacked areas.
Takes part in stopping high-scale robberies that involve class-2 firearms or higher.
The decision to create this elite unit was taken in 2014, following two events where the San Andreas police's lack of control was called into question. In 2013 , a civilian plane from Los Santos to Las Venturas was hijacked and forced to land at San Fierro airport ; a VIP passenger is killed following the intervention of the police.
Two years later, a San Andreas psychopathic citizen takes hostages at the hospital and threatens to kill himself and take them with him with a c4.
The best elements of the police of the time are recruited and undergo training in negotiation and advanced intervention techniques with the help of the national defence department and training elements from NATO itself.
From 2022, after NATO refusal to provide advanced weapons and training techniques, relationship with NATO had broke down, the BAT underwent a major metamorphosis and was modernized and had techniques and a new armory from former soviet KGB itself, to the point of becoming similar and just as effective. Since then, the brigade's mascot has changed and its new crest represents a black tiger, hence the nickname given to these agents: the "Black Tigers".
